Dear Brumby and in-general, animal lover
Australia is one of the largest countries on Earth, with vast national parks and wilderness areas that should be among the most protected places we have. Yet these landscapes have been damaged far more by human activity than by wildlife — from 4x4 bush hoons tearing up fragile tracks, to ski resorts carved into alpine zones, mountain‑bike parks pushing deeper into conservation areas, campers leaving long‑term impact sites, and hydro power projects reshaping entire catchments. Against this backdrop, an emergency injunction to halt the current wildlife management actions was recently rejected, but legal teams are now pursuing a further injunction and a full investigation into the numbers being used to justify the program. This means the matter is still active, and additional legal scrutiny is underway. During this period, it is important for Australians to contact their MPs and Senators to help drive up support for proper oversight, transparent data, and responsible decision‑making. Public feedback plays a significant role in ensuring elected representatives understand the urgency and community concern surrounding this issue. What You Can Do To Help the Brumbys
Contacting MPs and Senators — by email, post, or phone — is urgent to help support the appeal and ensure representatives understand the level of public concern.
You can do this by using Microsoft Mail merge, sorry I don't know how to do it on Macs.
You don't have to email, you could post letters, just insert the correct mail merge fields to do that as the addresses are in the files as are the phone numbers.
What You Need Before You Start
You need Microsoft Word on your computer.
You need Classic Outlook (the old Outlook).
If your Outlook says “New Outlook”, turn it off (toggle top right)— mail merge won’t work.
You need the two Word documents explained later
You need the two Excel sheets explained later
You need your email account already set up inside Classic Outlook.
You need your computer connected to the internet so Outlook can send the emails.
You need a little bit of patience — Word will send the emails one by one.
How to Do an Email Mail Merge
To create an email mail merge, you will need:
Create a new folder on your PC to keep everything organised
Click the 2 Word documents & 2 Excel CSV files linked below and save to your PC into the folder you created
Once all four files are saved together, you’ll be ready to use the mail‑merge instructions below to contact every MP and Senator quickly and efficiently.
(Please confirm current legal developments with trusted sources and please DO NOT SPAM them or we won't be taken seriously!!)
Start with the MP letter
Note the senator letter has a different salutation - Jump to senator letter instructions here
Open the MP Letter.docx
At the top, click the Mailings tab (it’s near the middle).
Click Start Mail Merge. (this won't send emails at this point)
Choose E‑mail Messages from the list.
Click Select Recipients.
Choose Use an Existing List.
A window will pop up — go to the folder you created earlier.
Click the Excel file named MP.csv
Click Open.
You now have your Excel list linked to your Word document.
Next you need to type a letter and insert Mail Merge Fields
In this instance we only want a salutation and name, so the letter is individual to each person and doesn't look like spam
How to Add the Greeting in Mail Merge
Click your mouse where you want the “Dear…” line to go (usually at the very top).
Type the word Dear and then a space.
For MPs
After typing “Dear ”, click Insert Merge Field
First insert the salutation field (this is usually Mr, Ms, Dr, Hon).
It will look like: Dear «Salutation»
Type a space.
Then insert the Surname field.
It will look like: Dear «Salutation» «Surname»,
Word will automatically put the correct title and last name for each MP.
To see what each email will look like, click the
Mailings>Menu item <ABC> Preview Results you can scroll through a few to see all is well
Adjust as necessary so it looks professional!
Now type your personal email message into the Word document (this will be the message everyone receives).
When you’re ready to send, click Finish & Merge.
Choose Send E‑mail Messages.
A box will appear:
To: choose the email field
Subject line: type your subject (e.g., “Urgent: Request for Review”).

Don’t panic, just wait
While Outlook is sending, don’t click like crazy.
Just let it finish.
